about emily:
Emily McDermott is a dedicated musician, performer, and educator with more than a decade of teaching experience and over thirty years of performance experience. Her studio offers personalized lessons in piano, voice, and theatre arts—each designed to nurture creativity, confidence, and technical skill in every student.
Emily’s musical journey began on the eastern side of Michigan, where her passion for music and theatre took root at a young age. Through private lessons, school programs, and community theatre, she developed a deep appreciation for the performing arts. She went on to earn a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Oakland University before moving to New York City, where she taught at various schools and academies, offered private instruction, and performed professionally.
In 2015, after starting a family with her husband, Chris, The McDermotts relocated to Connecticut where Emily joined the faculty at the Middlesex Music Academy, teaching piano and voice. Now, after returning to her home state, (this time to the vibrant community of Kalamazoo) Emily is thrilled to be teaching again and sharing her love of music with students of all ages.
